Changes to Navtex

This is a "heads up" on the trial of using NAVTEX 490 kHz to broadcast actual weather reports. The trial will involve Niton only and will start formally on 1st May. A Notice to Mariners is expected and it will be flagged up in the next RYA magazine. Sailing Today will carry an article.

Weather & Navtex

The International  NAVTEX service on 518 kHz is overstretched. The UK MCA/HMCG is one of the first national maritime authorities to develop use of the secondary national frequency of 490 kHz. This page gives early warning of a trial due to commence on 1st May 2007. Anyone seriously interested in obtaining actual weather data is encouraged to read this page and take active part in the trial.
